Where's the Peace?

What keeps you from Peace, right now?

That very thing? It’s pointing you towards Freedom. Here’s how …

When life bumps against our past trauma, triggering a place of stored overwhelm in our system, it can seem as if our very life is being threatened. This can appear as deep-felt hurt over a small slight, or upset over something clearly out of our control — in general, it feels disproportionately BIG. Our tendency can understandably be a fight, flight or freeze response, reinforcing a sense of helplessness and fear for the next time we're triggered.

And so it goes ... or so it would seem.

There is an alternative. Recognizing, "Oh, I'm triggered right now," turns our attention inward and it's here that we're empowered to do something about it.

With Awareness, we're at choice,
rather than at the mercy of our conditioned response.

Here's where it gets a bit radical! The conventional response would be to act out in an effort to protect (and we all now how that ends!).

What would it be to, instead, Lean Into The Discomfort ?

When we learn to lean into discomfort, we see that what we have been avoiding feeling, through ignoring or protecting, wants nothing more than our attention and the freedom to Be. With Awareness, what was taken as a threat, is now seen as simply unresolved bound energy that just wants to move.

With practice, our nervous system can learn that when we turn towards these uncomfortable feelings with Awareness, with an impersonal neutrality, and simply be with them, many of these places of stored hurt will dissolve on their own. These are simply places where the body/mind has contracted against reality as a form of protection. Non-Judgmental Awareness brings power and a sense of safety so they can just. let. go.

What's more, many of our more challenging circumstances come into our lives purely as an opportunity for these contracted places to resolve. And, as they resolve, the sense of separation dissolves.

Every experience of triggering offers us a choice --
continue to contract, which invites more of these experiences,
or open, lean in, be with and let go, so this can resolve.

As this practice of "leaning into discomfort" takes hold, and these resistances to What Is are released, we experience less drama which = more Peace, Relaxation, Spaciousness and Freedom. Amen! :)

Twice a month in the Alchemy Circle, my no-cost Now Space group experience, I like to begin by guiding those of us who have gathered into a state of Present Moment Experiencing. It’s from this more natural, resourced state that we welcome What Is in each moment, and if there is discomfort, we lean into it! This is a lovely, supportive non-judgmental container where we can practice this art of leaning in and from there see what treasures await!
