Depth Hypnosis
Developed by Isa Gucciardi, Ph.D., Depth Hypnosis is a model of spiritual counseling which serves to help people move through issues quickly and gain profound and long-lasting results on a spiritual, emotional, and physical level. It is a rapid path of transformation. By synthesizing key principles of shamanism, Buddhism, hypnotherapy, and transpersonal psychology, Depth Hypnosis brings the ancient healing wisdom of many cultures to the unique imbalances of contemporary Western society.
Recognizing that every person is unique, Depth Hypnosis actively involves clients in the process of discovering what is needed to effect the changes they are seeking in their life. In this way, clients are directly in touch with their power and their own ability to heal. By following current life issues to their source (through dream recall, inner child work, and regression), clients discover what is needed to help them move beyond their unconscious motivations. Through this process, clients are able to step into a life-affirming relationship with themselves and the world around them.
Depth Hypnosis encourages radical self-responsibility and engages clients in a process of self-empowerment through self-knowledge. As clients traverse the realms of their psyches through hypnosis, insight inquiry, regression, dream work, meditation, or the shamanic journey, the Depth Hypnosis Practitioner helps them interpret subconscious material. By doing so, the client and Practitioner are able to gain a deeper understanding of the obstacles that are creating disharmony in the client’s life.
Although Depth Hypnosis draws upon hypnotherapy, it differs radically from traditional hypnotherapy, which relies heavily on Ericksonian or suggestion hypnosis. While suggestion hypnosis is often helpful, it is not necessarily long-lasting because it works only on the surface and does not address underlying issues that may lie beneath the presenting problem. When the deeper issue is not addressed, the problem can return or another problem may emerge to take its place.
Depth Hypnosis is highly effective in dealing with a wide variety of symptoms. Because the Depth Hypnosis process understands that all symptoms are teachers that help clients find their way back to balance, it can address issues such as phobias, addictions, eating disorders, attention deficit disorder, chronic fatigue syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, panic disorders, and severe depression. A pilot study to examine the efficacy of Depth Hypnosis in the treatment of the symptoms of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can be found here.
